My father lately had what we later found to be "Basal Ganglia stroke". His MRI report summary was following: "Right basal ganglia recent infarct with bilateral parasylvian and cortical established infarcts with generalized cerebral atrophy"
I did some general research on these terms.
INFARCT: Tissue death because of inadequate blood supply. Reason: Hypertension or Atheroscleroris. HYPERTENSION: Reasons: - more salt - high weight - smoking, alcohol Is cause for: - Heart attack - Stroke - Kidney failure - Vision loss Prevention: - BMI between 20 and 25 kg/m^2 - less sodium intake - >30 min activity every day - fruits/vegetables ATHEROSCLEROSIS: Artery wall thickens because of WBC accumulation Starts in childhood Reasons not understood Risk factors: - Diabetes - Vitamin B6, iodine deficiency - Hyperthyroidism There are two types of strokes: Ischemic stroke: where blood vessels are clogged, so blood does not reach some area of brain Haermorrhagic stroke: where blood vessels are ruptured, so blood does not reach some area of brain
